Foundation of Mercy Children Centre – A Cry for Help and Hope

Over the past few years, tragedy has struck our community hard. Many children have been left without parents or guardians due to illness, poverty, and displacement. One in every five homes is now child-headed, with the older siblings forced to shoulder the responsibilities once carried by their late parents. It is a burden too heavy for such young shoulders to bear.

At the heart of this crisis is Foundation of Mercy Children Centre, a refuge for over 500 vulnerable children, including orphans and those abandoned or neglected. This Centre has become a place of solace and survival — but it is now overwhelmed, under-resourced, and in desperate need of support.

Urgent Needs of the Orphans

🍽️ Food Shortage
Children are going to bed hungry. Our team often walks around the village and local markets begging for leftover food to feed them. We urgently need regular food supplies to ensure that each child gets at least one proper meal a day.

🛏️ Bed and Bedding Crisis
Most children are sleeping two per bed, while others sleep on cold classroom floors due to insufficient beds and beddings. These overcrowded sleeping conditions are unhealthy and unsafe.

💧 Lack of Clean Water
The Centre currently lacks access to safe drinking water. The government has instructed us to drill a borehole, as the existing water source is unsafe for consumption. This is a life-saving need. We pray God will provide the means to dig a borehole soon.

🏚️ Building Renovation
The existing dormitories and classrooms are in dire condition. The structures are old and crumbling, and the government has required us to renovate and improve the facilities before we can continue housing the children. Every corner of the Centre — from the boys’ dormitory to the science lab and library — needs attention.

Current Needs at a Glance

  • Monthly food and medicine to care for 500 children.
  • Complete renovation of the boys’ dormitory, science lab, and library.
  • Construction of new dormitories to ease overcrowding. Currently, boys sleep in classrooms due to incomplete dorms.
  • Bed and bedding provision — two children are sharing one bed.
  • Rev. Henry’s family housing — their home was destroyed by a whirlwind. The family now rents a small room and urgently needs help rebuilding.
  • Electricity issues — the Centre was previously connected to electricity, but the transformer failed. We now rely on daylight and desperately need solar panels for lighting.
  • A functional borehole — the only way to access clean, safe water.
  • Computers and educational tools for the children’s learning.
  • Medicine for common infections and preventive care.

Makara Church – A Neighbour in Need

Just next to the Centre is Makara Church, a small congregation that serves both the children and the local community. The church plays a vital spiritual and emotional role in the lives of the orphans. However, it is also in need:

  • The building remains incomplete, missing plaster and flooring.
  • They need chairs, a PA system, and musical instruments to conduct services and gatherings.
  • The church building (100 x 50 ft) also acts as a meeting hall for community events and discipleship classes.

How You Can Help

Dear friends and well-wishers, the need is urgent, but the hope is alive. Every prayer, every coin, and every kind word goes a long way in restoring dignity, love, and opportunity to these little ones. We invite you to partner with us in any way you can — through donations, sponsorships, or spreading the word.

Let us be the hands and feet of Christ to the least among us.
May the Lord bless you richly for your compassion.
